Rosyth Sharks 50 Grangemouth Stags second XV 5, Caledonia Midlands Region League, Division Three
ROSYTH SHARKS notched up their fourth win in a row to get the better of Grangemouth Stags second XV on Saturday.
With an abundance of players to choose from, the team's coaches were able to field an experienced squad for the game at Harley Street, and were rewarded with a 50-5 success in their Caledonia Midlands Region League, Division Three, fixture.
The Sharks got off to an early start with tries from Steven Paterson and Ian Mulroy, and soon after, further scores were rolling in.
Thomas Howells, Damian Peacock, and team captain, Grant Sheridan, all crossed the whitewash, whilst Mulory helped himself to a second try of the afternoon, before half-time.
The boot of in-form kicker, Ryan Wallace, provided the conversions, whilst the visitors' only response was one unconverted try.
"The first half was everything a coach could want it to be," said Rosyth Sharks head coach, Mark Love.
"The boys executed the game plan, played smart attacking rugby, and were strong in the set pieces like scrums and lineouts."
The second period was more scrappy for the hosts and, while they didn't let Grangemouth put any more points on the board, they didn't press home their advantage as much as they could have.
Man of the match Mulroy, however, did complete his hat-trick - his second in as many weeks - with the reliable Wallace adding the extras, whilst Jamie Hance added another try for the Sharks.
"We took the foot off the gas in the second half and that's also frustrating for the coaches. We are looking or complete 80 minutes when we have the upper hand," Love added.
"Still, our defence was strong, we scored some more tries and stopped Grangemouth - historically strong opposition for us - from getting across the line again."
Saturday's result puts Rosyth Sharks in second place in the league, on 20 points alongside table-toppers Kirkcaldy second XV, who have a slightly better points for / against ratio.
The Sharks are on the road this Saturday, heading north to seventh-placed Arbroath, for a 1.30pm start.
