OAKLEY UNITED boss Peter Goldie has said he believes that his players can cause an upset and take the club into a cup final this weekend.
On Saturday, the Blairwood Park side welcome Whitburn in the semi-finals of the Alex Jack Cup, with a place in the showpiece against Edinburgh South or Kirkcaldy and Dysart up for grabs.
They are bidding to reach the final of the competition for the second time in five years, when previous boss, Stewart Kenny, guided them to a clash with Musselburgh Athletic.
In their first final since making the switch from junior football to the senior pyramid, the East Lothian side fought from a goal down to win 4-2.
The O's, who play in the East of Scotland League, Second Division, are bidding to earn themselves another shot at glory, following a run that has seen them defeat Ormiston Primrose, Heriot-Watt University and Kennoway Star Hearts.
Goldie, however, accepts his side are second favourites going into the game against Premier Division Whitburn, who are third in their league, having won seven and drawn two of their first 12 matches.
The West Lothian outfit defeated Kinnoull before winning at Crossgates Primrose in round two, with a 5-0 success at Fauldhouse United sealing their passage to the last four.
Speaking to Press Sport, Goldie reckons the pressure is off his team, and said he wouldn't be shocked if they raised their game against their higher league opponents.
"This week is an opportunity to rectify the performance from Saturday (their 2-2 league draw at Peebles Rovers) and make history," he said.
"We are the underdog on Saturday, with no pressure on us whatsoever. Sometimes we raise our game against the better teams and it won't surprise me if we do the same this week.
"I believe in every one of my players and, if they give 100 per cent effort in every position this week, then we have a chance.
"Whitburn are a very good side, but it's 11 v 11, and comes down to who wants it more. I will be doing my best to make sure the boys are confident in their ability on Saturday, and hopefully we can cause the upset and get ourselves into a final."
Kick-off for the match is at 2.30pm.
