REPRESENTATIVES from two West Fife women's football teams have been shortlisted for accolades at a prestigious national awards ceremony.

At the end of this month, Hampden Park will host the ScottishPower Scottish Women's Football Awards, which will celebrate success both on and off the field, from international stars like Erin Cuthbert and Christy Grimshaw, to volunteers who provided opportunities for women and girls to play.

Prizes in 16 categories will be presented at the event, which will take place on Saturday November 30, and both Dunfermline Athletic Women, and Bayside Women and Girls, feature within the nominees.

Pars forward Alex Davie, who in 2022 was voted as the SWFL (Scottish Women's Football League) North / East Division Player of the Year, after scoring an incredible 58 goals, has been put forward for the SWFL Player of the Year.

Alex, who was on the scoresheet during a 6-0 win for Athletic against Murieston United on Sunday in an SWFL Central league match, is in the running for the accolade alongside Armadale Ladies' Katie Hay, Dunipace player Claire Hutton, and Sarah Tait, or Ayr United Development / Cambusdoon.

There has also been recognition for Bayside, in two separate award categories.

Their YPL (Youth Performance League) under-16s team have been put forward for Youth Team of the Year, alongside Ross County under-18s, Musselburgh Windsor YPL and Glasgow Girls under-14s, whilst Paul Murray has been shortlisted in the Youth Coach of the Year category, alongside Steven McLean (Jeanfield Swifts), Mick Docherty (Rossvale), and Iain Maciver (Ross County).

On social media, Bayside said the nominations were a "fantastic achievement" for the club, adding: "Everyone at the club is extremely proud of this achievement for the girls, and Paul Murray and the 16s YPL coaching team.

"A lot of hard work, support, dedication from the girls, coaches and everyone involved in making this happen."

An all-female panel of judges, including former Scotland goalkeeper Gemma Fay, Scottish Women's Football chief executive, Aileen Campbell, the SFA's head of girls and women's football, Fiona McIntyre, Kate Cooper, St Mirren WFC head coach and chair of the SWF Championship and League One management committee, and ScottishPower's senior corporate affairs manager, Stephanie Todd, will choose the winners, from more than 1,000 nominations from the public.

Ms Campbell commented: "Last year's ScottishPower awards ceremony at Hampden was an incredible evening, marking the rapid growth and visibility of the women’s game in Scotland.

“We received more than twice as many nominations for this year’s awards, highlighting some amazing stories of success, bravery and sportswomanship, sometimes against all odds. So it’s therefore tremendously exciting to reveal the shortlists, which again showcases the best the women’s game has to offer and the women and girls who sometimes don’t even realise the power they have as role models.

“A huge thanks is due to our Principal Partner ScottishPower for backing the awards again, and to our media partners the Sunday Post and MG Alba. I can’t wait to celebrate all those shortlisted at Hampden in November, but first the judging panel has a difficult job ahead.”

MsTodd added: "ScottishPower are incredibly proud to be again sponsoring this annual celebration of the women and girls in Scotland who play the beautiful game as Principal Partner of both Scottish Women’s Football and the SWPL.

“Looking through the nominations it’s clear there are so many unsung heroes who go above and beyond to provide opportunities for girls and women in their communities, which is exactly why ScottishPower is backing women’s football in Scotland. All of those shortlisted deserve recognition, which will make judging a real challenge indeed."
