THE standard of performance has "been set" and the "desire" of the players needs to continue after Dunfermline's thumping win over Livingston.

That's the view of boss James McPake, who was full of praise for his squad after they ended the Lions' unbeaten league start to pick up only their second Championship victory of the season.

The Pars picked up their first league maximum in six outings with a performance full of energy, pressing, chances created and clinical finishing, thanks to Chris Kane's brace either side of a Kyle Benedictus header.

Partick Thistle, who snatched a last-gasp win when the teams last met at Firhill last month, are up next at KDM Group East End Park on Saturday, and, when asked if the Livi win was going to set the standard for what his team will aim to produce more consistently, McPake replied: "The easy answer is to say yes, but we're not going to score three goals every game.

Dunfermline Press:

"We're going to lose games, we're going to draw games, but I think that, in terms of a level of performance, the standard's been set. I don't think there's anything different.

"I might be wrong. Maybe it's easy to stand and say it now, but I think the level of performance against Morton (which ended 0-0) out there was very similar. The chances created was very similar - we just weren't clinical, and that was a problem.

"I think tonight the players deserve a lot of credit because it's one thing showing players certain things in games or what not but, when you put a video on of chances that we've missed, and they see that with their own eyes, and real good chances, and then, an hour later, or whatever it was, they go out with the desire for them to get on the end of things to go and do that.

"Now that's a given. It should be a given, and it has to be going forward. It is only three points, that's all it is, but it's an important one for us."

The result also came on the back of a weekend loss at rivals Falkirk, where McPake felt his team's performance was positive, despite the end result.

"The performances have been good," he said.

"We shot ourselves in the foot on Saturday, albeit the performance, and people will tell me it wasn't, but I've watched the game back often enough, and we were well in that game against the best team in the league on Saturday.

"Tonight, a team coming that are the only team undefeated in the league and, from the start, we were right in the game and got ourselves in front deservedly.

"There was no way we were giving it up tonight. We were on top, but look, it's one win. That's all it is."
