IF goals are currency, the Pars look to be in need of a loan to get them through the weekend as their inability to get the ball in the net left them short against Thistle.

Chasing an equaliser, they bossed most of the second half but save for a glaring miss by Chris Hamilton, there was a real poverty of chances and they didn't really look like scoring.

They did rattle in three against Livingston in the previous match but the man who scored two of them, Chris Kane, had to leave the pitch with concussion early in the second half against Thistle.

With Lewis McCann subbed at half-time with an injury, that left Pars new boy Dapo Mebude to shoulder the burden up front.

He said: "On a personal note, it's nice to get 80 minutes or so, but the result wasn't the one we wanted so it's disappointing.

"We did control the second half and I think we conceded a poor goal and had a good chance to score.

"But yeah, at any level, if you don't take your chances and you don't defend set pieces, you'll get beat."

The Jags have the meanest defence in the Championship, they've only conceded seven goals, but it's not just this match where Athletic's shooting boots have gone missing.

Dunfermline have played 18 league and cup matches so far this season and drawn a blank in eight of them.

The ball ran loose for Hamilton but with the goalie out of the picture and the goal gaping, he couldn't hit the target.

Mebude admitted: "It was a great opportunity, but sometimes these things happen and you can miss chances. I just need to try and create more of them.

"Try and keep getting in positions, keep getting crosses in the box, and if we create two, three, four of them, then hopefully one will be hitting the back of the net next time."

The 23-year-old is yet to score for Athletic, it's still early days as he builds match fitness and he has looked a handful at times, but he couldn't apply the finishing touch on Saturday.

He said: "We need to take the responsibility as forwards and myself to start trying to win games."

Mebude went on: "I need to start getting goals and assists to try and help the team because obviously that's what I've been brought in to do.

"Playing well is good, but obviously I need to do my job as well and start trying to help the team with goals and assists.

"So that's what I'm trying to add to the team. Hopefully I can start doing that soon."

It was a game of few chances but the former Rangers and Oostende forward said: "I definitely don't think we deserved to lose the game.

"But at the end of the day, we did, and we need to get back on the training pitch and work harder and make sure that doesn't happen again."
