KELTY HEARTS can take encouragement from their display on the ball at Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday but "need to be clinical".

That's the view of assistant manager, Kevin McDonald, who said that they'll continue to work on a possession-based game which he felt served them well in the Highlands.

Ross Cunningham's free-kick earned them a draw against the Caley Jags who, after being relegated to League One last season, recently entered administration, incurring a 15-point penalty from the SPFL.

Kelty welcome Dumbarton to New Central Park this weekend and, speaking to Press Sport, McDonald noted: "We try and we work on that in every session.

"We work on passing the ball and we'll never have a change from that. We want to try and control games and, obviously, we look back at stats and stuff, and we've always got more passes, more possession and more control than other teams.

"We just need to be clinical and turn that possession into chances because, obviously, I understand that possession doesn't win games, but that's the way we want to play and that's the way we feel like we'll get better to get to a better level."

Player / boss, Michael Tidser, is key to how Kelty play and, having missed their last three matches through injury, he returned against Inverness, as did Tam O'Ware, who was suspended for their previous match at Stenhousemuir.

"He (Tidser) makes such a big difference to the group in terms of his experience and what he brings to the younger players, and obviously Tam O'Ware was back from the week before as well," McDonald added.

"He was brilliant on Saturday and now we've hopefully got Scott Allan got back at the weekend.

"We're just starting to get bodies back that are important to the group and they've got good experience to help the younger players along."
