CHRIS KANE is still being assessed ahead of Saturday's trip to Queen's Park but his manager is hopeful he'll be fit to be involved.

The Dunfermline forward was substituted early in the second half, during the home defeat to Partick Thistle, after suffering a head knock in an aerial challenge.

Losing their go-to-man for goals in recent matches - the ex-St Johnstone man had bagged a double in the 3-0 win over Livingston last midweek, which took his tally to four in as many matches - was a blow, but boss James McPake is keeping his fingers crossed that he could be available for the visit to Hampden.

"We're still monitoring him. Hopefully, with a view to the weekend, he'll be ok, but we'll certainly not take any chances," he told Press Sport.

"It's still the same, in terms of the player has to pass the concussion tests with the medical staff.

"The only one that there is any concern over at the minute is Chris Kane; everyone else is ok."

Lewis McCann was also replaced against the Jags, at half-time, with McPake commenting post-match that he was struggling having "put a lot into the game" against Livingston, but his availability would be welcomed for the game with the fifth-placed Spiders.

Callum Davidson's side, who won at KDM Group East End Park earlier in the season, are outside the promotion play-off places on goal difference, and are 10 points above the second bottom Pars, who are yet to win a league match on the road this season.

"We were disappointed with the result at the weekend," McPake added.

"We felt it was a chance to go and build on a really good, a really strong performance, but ultimately we lost the game to a poor goal from a set play, so we'll just build and try and take the level of performance into the Queen's Park game."
