ATHLETIC defender Rhys Breen has revealed he said "stuff it, give me the ball and I'll give it a bash" before scoring a wonder goal from his own half.
The 24-year-old enjoyed the highlight of his time on loan with League One Annan Athletic on his home debut last month, when he scored an astonishing winning goal against Montrose.
Centre back Breen has featured six times for the Galabankies after joining them until January, a decision which Pars boss, James McPake, said was a "tough one" but one aimed at the player getting as many minutes as possible to then "have a look and see if he comes back here match fit and feeling good about his body".
Breen has featured twice for Dunfermline's reserve team since going out on loan, the latest of which was in a 2-1 Reserve Cup win over Dundee on Tuesday, and told the club's website about his magnificent strike.
"I kind of shocked myself a wee bit with that," he said.
"I said to one of the boys beforehand, I’ve noticed he (Montrose keeper, and ex-Par, Cammy Gill) is off his line an awful lot. It was to Paul McGowan, and he said 'I won’t be able to shoot from here'.

"I was like, stuff it, give me the ball and I’ll give it a bash. So, I looked up, saw it, and the second the ball left my foot, I just knew. I was like, wow, honestly, and it was all so real because I went and celebrated.

"Then when I got back into position, I was like, did that just happen? Honestly, with my family and everyone there, it made it even more special.
"It’s something that I want to add to my game. Obviously, goals like that don’t come around often, but twice when I’ve played with them, we’ve had two wins and two clean sheets.
"We had a bad result last weekend but I’m loving my time there. Hopefully, I can just keep performing and keep getting the minutes that I need."
That bad result for Breen and his team-mates was a 5-0 loss at Alloa Athletic, who make the trip to KDM Group East End Park on Tuesday evening in the quarter-finals of the SPFL Trust Trophy.
Andy Graham's side are second in League One, behind Cove Rangers only on goal difference, and he added: "I thought Alloa were really, really, really dominant.

"It was a poor performance from Annan, but they’re a really, really tough side and it’ll be a good game. Hopefully the boys can definitely get the victory.
"We had a bad result last week but the squad that I’m in is a really, really good bunch of guys. I’m learning a lot and getting game time which I needed.
"Obviously, I played out the game last Tuesday with Dunfermline and it’s good to have a Dunfermline strip on again.
"As long as I get my game time, as long as I stay fit, that’s the main thing, and we’ll see what happens in the next couple of months."
