Kelty Hearts star Ross Cunningham believes he's playing the best football of his career "by a big margin" after finding a position which suits him "down to a tee".
The 26-year-old has already recorded his highest tally of goals for a season, with the nine he bagged in just 13 League One matches, prior to Saturday's match at Annan Athletic, leaving him out on his own as the division's top scorer.
Former Clyde man Cunningham netted six in his first season at New Central Park, after arriving last summer, and his stunning opener in the recent home win over Dumbarton underlined the confidence he is playing with.
"It's the most I've scored in a league campaign, and we're only in November," he explained.
"I don't set myself any targets on how many I try and get. I just try and take it game by game and just keep building on it.
"Last year was difficult for me. I couldn't really nail a place in the team, and I couldn't find a position that probably suited my game within the team last year, and that's fine.
"The gaffer (Michael Tidser) and Geordie (assistant manager Kevin McDonald) said to me at the start of the season 'we're going to try you as an eight, a central midfielder', and it's something I've done in the past briefly, but never really played a lot of games in there.
"I think it suits me down to a tee, the way we play as a team and on that right-hand side, working with CJ (Craig Johnston) and Merce (Scott Mercer).
"I think we've got a good connection on that side and it's just that everything's working for me.
"I'm confident in taking the ball into areas and playing and so, aye, it was a position that probably I've never really done, but it was something that I thought, if I really try at it and stick at it, I could succeed in there."
When asked if he felt this season was some of the best football of his career so far, Cunningham replied: "Definitely, by a big margin.
"I'm probably my own worst critic, and there's always things I can do better, and there's always got to be things I can do better but aye, on a personal note, this season has been the best for me on the pitch."
"We're doing well and that's what we're trying to do, is just pick up as many points as we can.
"We fancy ourselves to be right up there come the end of the season, but it's down to us on the pitch to make sure that we keep picking up three points, and keep battling away.
"I think in League One, any team can be up there. If you put a good run of form, a good six, seven games in a row, together, you can be right up there.
"I think at the start of every season that's got to be your aim, to at least try and make the play-offs, and I think the squad we've got in there is more than capable of doing that.
"Like I said, we're not going to get too carried away, we've got to take it game by game and just keep building on it."
