Caroline Weir will be aiming to reach her third major international tournament after being named in the Scotland squad for two crucial play-off matches.

The Dunfermline-born Real Madrid midfielder is in Pedro Martinez Losa's 23-strong player pool for the national side's UEFA Women's Euro 2025 double-header with Finland.

The Scots will host the Finns in the first leg at Hibernian's Easter Road on Friday, before travelling to Helsinki for the return fixture on Tuesday (December 3).

Up for grabs is a place at next summer's European Championships in Switzerland, with seven teams set to secure their spot via a play-off to join the hosts, and already qualified Denmark, England, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands and Spain.

Last month, Caroline returned to the Scotland squad more than a year after she ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee in a draw against Belgium at Hampden Park.

The 29-year-old spent almost a year on the sidelines but returned strongly for her club, which she carried on into the international arena.

In the first play-off round, against Hungary, Caroline captained Scotland in the absence of regular skipper, Rachel Corsie, who again misses out on the squad, and led them to a 1-0 win in Budapest before a 4-0 home victory, in which she scored her 18th goal in 104 caps.

That secured a 5-0 aggregate success and a showdown with the Finns, where victory over two legs will take Scotland to their third major international tournament.

In 2017, Caroline was a key part of the squad which reached the European Championships in the Netherlands, and she scored the goal that gave the Scots their first win, against Spain, but they did not move beyond the group stage.

Two years later, she featured as the national side reached the FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time, where losses to England and Japan, and a draw with Argentina, again saw them exit at the group stage.

Friday's first leg, which kicks off at 7.35pm, is live on the BBC Scotland channel, and tickets can be obtained through the Scottish FA website.
